Beyond the Boundary: Cantilever Gates

A Cantilever Gate is predominantly used when there is no ground structure – Concrete Driveway.
This is the perfect solution as the Cantilever Gate Floats in the air across the driveway and has no
ground track that can be damaged by heavy vehicles, like trucks and forklifts. Also ideal for areas
that are prone to dirt, mud and debris.

The Cantilever gate is especially suited to uneven or sloped driveways; the gate is counterbalanced on one end to provide stability and security. They are also known for increased performance and ideal for high use entrances.

The maintenance is a lot lower than traditional ground track sliding gates which are prone to be hit and knocked off the track causing damage and breakdown call outs.

There are multiple things to consider when recommending / choosing a Cantilever gate:

  1. Is there room for it in the open position. Generally speaking the tail of a cantilever gate is 30% of the gate opening measurement. So you are essentially adding 30% to the size of the opening to get the overall
length of your gate.
  2. How are you best to:
    1. Build your footing for the Carriages
    2. What size carriages and bottom track are suitable for the size of the gate
    3. How far apart do I space the carriages
    4. What other parts are required
    5. What size motor is best to operate the gate

These and other questions require various calculations and we strongly recommend you speak to Rob (021 980406) our Technical Manager to ensure you get all of this spot on.

One thing Rob will say to you is that ‘whilst the overall cost of a Cantilever Gate is higher, due to stronger materials and support structures, this is offset in the long term with reduced maintenance and breakdown costs.’
