FAQs

What are the requirements for balustrades?
+
The New Zealand Building Code, Clause 4 “safety from falling’ requires barriers constructed where people can fall one meter or more. Balustrades need to be designed and constructed to be capable of providing the required strength for the location and type of property that they serve. Both our tubular and glass range of balustrades meet all New Zealand Building Code requirements.
Can I use a fence as apposed to a balustrade?
+
No you cant. Balustrades are an engineered design solution that is required to handle loads, and prevent falling.  A balustrade will have an associated PS1, and document signed off by an engineer confirming its suitability as a Balustrade and that it meets the New Zealand Building Code.
What other differences are there between a fence and a balustrade?
+
A balustrade will generally have a limit on its height and post spacing.  It will also be very specific about the thickness and strength of its post designs.
What are the things to consider when installing a balustrade?
+
A key thing to consider is how the balustrade is fixed to the deck or balcony etc.  There are very specific requirements around where you can and cant use fixings for a balustrade and how fixings are installed to ensure they are secure and weathertight. Warner can work with your architect or builder to ensure Building Code requirements are met for your balustrade, contact your nearest Warner representative today.
